LetsGoSpa Review- September 2004

Pia Lauren, owner of Spa di Belleza, has been interested in skincare since she was a young girl in Italy.  Her mother practiced purifying beauty regimes, which Pia quickly became accustomed to.  Pia has been a spa owner for 17 years (her previous location was in Westport).  So it’s no surprise that you receive top quality skincare when you indulge at Spa Di Bellezza.

Facilities and Atmosphere
Spa Di Bellezza’s new facility on Post Road in Fairfield is a delightful spa retreat of over 2000 square feet.   As you enter the spa on the first floor you can hear the sounds of soothing Italian music and your eyes are immediately drawn to the full wall mural that makes you feel as though you are in an Italian garden with scenes of grapevines and blue skies.  The luxurious drapery, neutral colors, and spa scents make it easy to feel relaxed at Spa Di Bellezza.

There are two floors of treatment areas to help you escape the craziness of everyday life.   The first floor houses two manicure and two pedicure stations, along with the relaxation area and a makeup area.  The reception area also has some beautiful pieces of jewelry on display. A wide, hardwood staircase leads to the upstairs where there are five treatment rooms; two massage, two facial and a wax room.  Each room is painted in a soothing color and luxurious draperies meticulously accent the rooms for an added touch of relaxation.  There is also a relaxation area on the second floor.

Service and Staff
Pia treats her spa as if it is her home and is very hospitable.  She greeted us when we walked and and sat in the relaxation area to chat with us about our skincare needs prior to the service.  She seems to truly care about her client’s skincare.

Range of Services
The spa offers waxing, facials, massage, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, and makeup.  The prices are very reasonable, with a 75 minute facial starting at $75 and a 60 minute massage (including 15 minutes of foot reflexology) starting at $80.  The "Afternoon Getaway" spa package is a great deal at $125 which includes facial or massage, manicure, makeup application and spa lunch along with Italian wine from Avellino Restaurant.

Treatments
Both Heather and I had a massage and facial with Pia.  The facial was exactly what I needed, having just come home from my honeymoon in the islands.  Pia started the facial with a deep cleanser followed by an exfoliation with steam which helps open the pores and prepare them for extractions.  After a thorough skin analysis, Pia decided my skin needed a Vitamin A peel, which she custom blends herself (although Pia will soon be switching to the Yonka product line).

Heather had a peel composed of Vitamins B6 and B12 mixed with lavender oil to cleanse the skin from within.  After the peel we each had a face, neck, and scalp massage, a collagen masque to help the elasticity of the skin, and custom made moisturizer.  The facial was topped off with the use of a Light Wave Machine.  This machine resembled a small flat paddle and when it is rubbed on the face, the light waves emitted from it are penetrated into the skin.  The light helps stimulate the cells and build collagen to heal scratches and reduce wrinkles.  It also make the skin glow.  The machine really did help reduce the appearance of a scratch I had on my chin.  It was amazing!  Overall, the facial was great.  I went into the treatment with my face feeling “tight” and overexposed to the sun, and came out feeling smooth and rehydrated.

My massage was relaxing; although the railroad runs directly behind the spa and may be startling at times.  I had a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue.  Pia gives you the choice to have hot stones incorporated into her massage.  She spent extra time on the areas of my body where my tension resided the most.  She performed foot reflexology for an entire 15 minutes, which Heather and I both agree was the greatest part of the massage!  Our feet have never had so much attention!  Pia finished the treatment with a great neck massage and relieved the pressure points on the face.  After the massage, the indulgence continued as I treated myself to several hershey's kisses that Pia had left in the room for me.

For those clients who get more than one service, Pia will provide you with a robe and what has to be the softest slippers on earth...

This Spa is Perfect For…
An Italian "Afternoon Getaway" to get that much needed facial or massage along with spa lunch from Avellino.

What Sets This Spa Apart?
Two things:  Pia (you have to meet her to find out why) and the pricing, a 75 minute facial for $75 is an amazing deal, especially in Fairfield County.

Would I go back?
Yes.  The large facility and Italian theme really made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I felt my services were customized to my own needs. Pia’s desire to have people take good care of their skin is inspirational and motivating.
