| The spa décor still reminds us of an Arabian nights theme with crème colored scarves draped throughout the natural beige colored rooms. The décor is comfortable and clean in soft, light colors. The treatment rooms invoke a sense of relaxation with their flickering candles, dimmed sconces, spa scents, and wonderfully soothing music. As part of the renovations, Sheila was able to expand to the second floor, where she moved the boutique, spa lunch area, and two more treatment rooms. The décor of one of the facial rooms has also been updated; it now has soothing décor and no clutter.
The Little Things
We felt at home from the moment we entered the spa. The staff is pampering and comforting. We were offered tea or water and light snacks were available.
The Star Treatment
We’ve had several of the treatments that Joiya has to offer, including reflexology, tired foot and leg treatment, marine pumice seaweed wrap and facials. Our favorite treatments have been with Christina. Both of us have had facials with Christina and agree that our skin was noticeably cleaner afterwards. Christina used steamy hot towels dipped in scented oils throughout the treatment. Every lotion and cleanser she used had a very light, yet soothing scent to it.
Marine Pumice Seaweed Wrap
The treatment began with a full body pumice exfoliation. Christina wrapped me up in a Mylar wrap that uses my own body heat to heat the wrap. This was my first wrap without a heavy warming blanket and it was nice not to feel so weighted down. After 20 minutes, Christina started my Jacuzzi bath. The tub was so incredible! Once I had washed all the seaweed off and dried,
Christina came back in the room to apply a hydrating lotion to my body. When I asked her to put some extra pressure on a knot in my shoulder blade, she not only put a little pressure, she massaged it and really tried to work that knot out. Then she applied a special Muscle Ease Remedy lotion to the knot and massaged some more. To me, the fact that she deviated from the treatment to ease the discomfort I was having in my muscle, made this treatment, this esthetician, and this spa one of the best for me! Christina first placed a steamy hot washcloth dipped in scented oils on my chest. The oils helped me relax instantly. Every lotion and cleanser she used had a very light, yet soothing scent to it, which was very soothing. I left feeling completely relaxed, renewed, and my entire body and face was amazingly silky.
Reflexology
It was my first experience with this type of treatment and Kim, my therapist made me feel comfortable. Reflexology focuses on the feet and how pressure points in the feet can serve as a map to the rest of the body. Many times, with reflexology, therapists can tell when there are problems with internal organs. At first, I wasn’t convinced that I’d benefit from this treatment, especially since my back was tight and I really needed a good ol’ massage. To my surprise, I found the treatment unbelievably relaxing. It was almost a strange sensation because it was calming and soothing, and yet she was only touching my feet! Much to my surprise, I actually did feel the tension in my back melt away.
Tired Foot and Leg Treatment
This treatment was followed by foot reflexology with Patty, to help revitalize my legs and feet. My legs were caressed with essential oils containing seaweed and then wrapped in plastic bags and blankets for 15 minutes. This process helps release toxins and provides lymphatic drainage. The foot reflexology was very relaxing; my eyes were covered by a chamomile scented and heated eye pad. I was experiencing soreness in my hamstring and Patty massaged a certain spot on my foot to relieve the pain. It did relieve the pain in my hamstring but unfortunately displaced it to my butt! But apparently it is common for pain to move up and out of your body. One interesting note: this practitioner, Patty, worked on a woman who was having trouble getting pregnant and after several sessions of reflexology was able to conceive!
