Aroma Beauty and Wellness Spa
Wilton, Connecticut
LetsGoSpa Review- October 2004

The Aroma Beauty & Wellness Spa in Wilton, CT is unique from many spas in that it truly does focus on both beauty and wellness as the name indicates.  This is the first day spa that we’ve seen that offers a Fitness and Balance Studio.  The quality services are a perfect complement to a lunchtime or afternoon yoga, pilates or dance class!

Facilities and Atmosphere
The instant we walked through the door of Aroma we felt like we were at home.  The first thing we saw as we walked in was a cute teddy bear dressed in a spa robe and slippers welcoming us to the spa.  The owner Melissa was there to greet us as well.  Melissa is very glowing and radiant, so we were so excited to be getting services from her!  To make us feel more comfortable, she gave us the option to leave our shoes at the door.  We took advantage of this and enjoyed the feel of the soft cushy carpets on our feet.  The spa has a “petite” feel to it, small and cute.

There are two treatment rooms in addition to a tanning room, a relaxation room at the entrance and a makeup area.  The decor is subtle but soothing with a theme of vines and flowers utilizing shades of light green and beige.  The smaller size adds to the feeling of personalized service that you’ll receive at Aroma.

Service and Staff
Melissa and her staff are on a first name basis with their clients and make an effort to get to know them.  Melissa keeps records of the services and products that she’s used on her clients to enhance their future experiences.  She schedules extra time in between services to allow clients to relax and perhaps add on extra services.  There is no rushing at Aroma!

We were most impressed by the sunflower bouquets waiting for us in the treatment rooms.  For clients who come in for a special occasion or are given a gift certificate, Melissa will treat them with a special gift like these flower bouquets.

Range of Services
Aroma’s services and facilities are unlike most true day spas; they offer unique services and have chosen not to offer some traditional spa treatments.  Aroma is the only day spa that we’ve seen so far that has a Fitness and Balance Studio.  The Studio offers Yoga, Pilates, Body Sculpting and Dance classes.  The classes are typically during lunch or after 5pm to accommodate client work schedules.

Aroma even offers a brown bag lunch for classes during the lunch hour! The spa specializes in facials (including eye, back and décolleté) and massages (aromatherapy, deep tissue, prenatal, shiatsu and reflexology).  The facials include a peel and complementary eyebrow or lip/chin waxing (if requested in advance).  The facial varieties include acne control, firming, aqua lift, reiki and glycolic.  They also offer waxing, reiki, makeup, eyelash/brow tinting, self-tanning and sunbeds.  Melissa has chosen not to offer body treatments such as wraps because she believes that the body temperature varies too much in these treatments.  Aroma also does not offer manicures or pedicures.

The spa caters to its clients and will stay open for convenient evening and weekend hours upon request.  The spa staff is also available for onsite or home spa parties.

Treatments
I had the pleasure of having a facial with Melissa, whose extensive schooling includes training in London and post graduate work in New Jersey.  The facial is a complete 75 minutes of luxury; Melissa does not believe in “add-ons” and therefore includes “extras” in her treatment. The first thing I noticed was that the facial smock actually fit (I don’t know about you, but I usually have issues getting the smock to stay on)!

The facial starts with a dusting of aromatherapy oil on your chest to promote relaxation.  The facial continues with a milk cleansing followed by optional extractions.  She applied a purifying lotion to medicate the pores from the extraction process.

I then had a glycolic peel to dissolve impurities and exfoliate the skin.  Throughout the process Melissa will massage the upper body.  The facial concludes with a clay mask (which contains a bleaching crème to brighten the skin), a medicating crème and an application of sunblock or self-tan if desired.  Melissa gave me great advice about cleansing my face that I follow daily.  Did you know that the skin has scales similar to a fish that face downward and therefore you should wash you skin in an upward motion to thoroughly cleanse?

I can honestly say that I felt completely relaxed throughout the entire service.  I usually ask a ton of questions during my services, but Melissa encouraged me to relax and ensured me that she would set aside time after the service to answer my questions.  Melissa told me to take my time getting up and dressed after the facial.  For the first time after a service, I didn’t feel rushed to leave and could actually remain lying for awhile and enjoy the relaxation.    Melissa topped off my treatment with some sample products which she presented to me in a cute bag, folded over and sealed with a sticker.  Melissa doesn’t overlook any details when it comes to her customers!

Jen had a full body massage with Risa.  The treatment was a full 75 minutes.  Jen said it was a top quality massage and that it was easy to tell that Risa is an expert in her field.  Jen said Risa massaged everything including buttocks and earlobes and even spent extra time on problem areas, like Jen’s ever-knotted shoulder blade.  Risa uses a combination of massage techniques to create a massage that is all her own and that is customized for the client.

This Spa is Perfect For…
Well-being:  Try a fitness class followed by a few hours of rejuvenation and relaxation with a facial and massage.  And if you really want to indulge, try ending your experience with a comforting meal at the fabulous Portofino restaurant next door.

What Sets This Spa Apart?
Melissa.  She is so radiant and the kind of person that you want to be around.  It’s clear that she truly loves what she does and enjoys taking care of people.

Would I Go Back?
Yes!  I would take my own advice above and indulge in an afternoon of well-being at Aroma anytime.
