The Little Things (Jen, January 19, 2005)
What can turn a standard massage into a magnificent massage? What makes a facial absolutely fantastic? As I found out while visiting the Spa at 3000BC, a modern Egyptian inspired spa in Philly, it’s the small details that can transform a common service into a completely unique spa escape.
Imagine my pleasant surprise when, during my massage, I was given cozy heated pillows for my neck and knees. The heat felt wonderful and made my muscles relax almost instantly. Just when I though it couldn’t get much better, steamy hot towels were wrapped around my feet and the therapist pressed the warmth into every inch of my feet and ankles. Mmmmm, pure bliss….and it just kept getting better. When it came time to massage my back, the therapist, removed the blankets and before the cool air in the room could make my muscles tighten, she placed a fresh hot steamy towel on my entire back, then replaced my warm blankets and began her massage from there. Once the towels lost their warmth, she removed them and continued with the massage. This was enough to make me slip away into a peaceful nap.
As if the massage wasn’t enough, my facial had its fair share of small details to make it different from any other facial I’ve experienced. Heat was the theme of the day as I was given hot stones to hold in each of my hands and one more was placed on my chest. Add to this warmth a facial table that completely conformed to my body and you’ve got one of the most relaxing facials you could ask for!
It’s these small details that can really make one massage or facial stand out from the rest. So the next time you indulge in a spa treatment don’t be surprised if you end up being most impressed by the little things!
