The Mid-Winter Pedicure (Jen, January 12, 2005)

If you’re like me, the last day you wear open toed shoes is probably the last day you spend too much time caring about how well polished your feet are.  For me, it’s all about the shoes, so if I’m tucking my tootsies in clunky boots for the next six months, I’m just not too worried about whether my chipping red polish matches my new pink sweater.  Usually, it’s the symptoms of Spring Fever that make me want that fresh feet feel.

But, to my pleasant surprise a few weeks ago, I indulged in a mid-winter pedicure that left my feet feeling fresh, revived, and well, spring-like!  This time I indulged at Victorian Day Spa in West Hartford where the pedicures have their own separate room.  I was treated to tea and cookies while my feet soaked in the whirlpool tub and my back relaxed by the massaging pedicure chair.

The pedicure was great and the conversation with the pedicurist was fun.  I left there with a beautiful and fresh deep red nail color.  But what was most memorable for me was not the red color or the fun hour I had chatting away with the pedicurist, it was the relief of the dry skin on my feet that I get from taking showers that are too long and too hot during the winter weather.  I now realize that the benefits of pedicures go beyond the fun colors you choose as they also nourish and pamper that one body part that supports your body day in and day out…your feet!

Even now, a few weeks later, my feet still feel fabulous, and every day before I put on those clunky boots, I still smile when I see my pretty toes.  I’ve got a new outlook on winter-time pedicures and am already planning the next indulgence for my feet.
