A Chain with Charm (Heather, May 21, 2006)
I was recently travelling through
Fort Wayne
,
Indiana
, and had a free night by myself. So what was I to do? What’s great about being a spa lover is that I can go almost anywhere in the world, find a home away from home and indulge in my addiction. I've never been to a midwest spa and wasn't sure how it would compare to the spas in the Northeast. So I went online and checked out the websites to get a feel for a few local spas that were recommended to me. I really liked the website of The Woodhouse Spa and hoped it was indicative of the experience there. Lucky for me, it was.
At first I had some doubts as I drove up to this spa located in a strip mall. But once I stepped through the door, the familiar spa scents greeted me and the charming and elegant atmosphere surprised me. The receptionist brought down a spacious hallway to the women’s locker room where I was given a robe, slippers, locker and a private changing room. I was then escorted to the quiet relaxation room and given my choice of tea. I noticed a few wet rooms with
Vichy
shower and bathtubs. The décor was modern with an Asian influence. I was impressed.
As I sat sipping my tea, I read a spa periodical written and printed by The Woodhouse Spa itself. There was an advertisement announcing the opening of new Woodhouse Spas across the country including
Arizona
,
Georgia
,
New York
,
New Jersey
,
Michigan
and
Texas
. That’s when I figured it out, the Woodhouse was not a
Fort Wayne
exclusive, but a national spa chain! How fabulous! Now I can travel and not fret about where to spa. But I still hadn’t had my treatment yet, so I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon just yet…
And again, lucky for me, everything was wonderful. The spa offered a special that included a 45 minute facial, 30 minute upper body massage and pedicure. The products smelled and felt great on my skin. But the best part is that I spent two hours at the spa all for the low cost of $100! Can you believe it? And I was able to book my appointments same day. Does it get any better than this?
For those of you looking for dependable spa service when you’re travelling to unfamiliar destinations, I’d recommend trying a reputable day spa chain like The Woodhouse. If you’re willing to splurge you can also try my personal favorites The Mandarin Oriental, Mandara and Elemis.
