"Winter can get you down up here in the Interior of Alaska, but it is nice to know that there is a place where you can go to recharge when winter doldrums set in!  Chena Hot Springs is not what I would call a "Destination" Resort, but Japanese tourists can't wait to arrive here each winter.  I find it rather comical that 60 miles northeast from Fairbanks (in the "bush") everything is written in Japanese.  November through February is considered peak season with the resort's main attractions being their springs and the amazing views of the Northern Lights.  Also, for the past two winters, the resort has constructed an ice hotel in which you can spend the night!  EVERYTHING in the hotel is made of ice (i.e. beds, lobby, bar, chairs, glasses)!  EVERYTHING! AMAZING!  I found it intriguing to soak in an outdoor lake in Alaska during December and not be cold!  If you can get over the sulfuric smell, the mineral springs do have curative qualities, and I did feel very relaxed soaking in the quiet calm of the wilderness.  For the outdoor enthusiast, there are a multitude of activities including cross-country skiing, snowmachining, hiking, dog-sledding, and flight-seeing.  After a full day's activities, what wouldn't be complete without a massage in an old log cabin! If you are looking for a truly unique spa experience, it might be worth a try if you are visiting the Interior of Alaska.  If you are looking for frills and the lap of luxury, don't head into this wilderness retreat."
