The Vibe
Ethnic and Ornate.  The reception area reminds me of a Moroccan palace with alcoves adorned with elaborate urns, white columns, clay colored tiled floors and a high ceiling.  The high ceilings and ornate décor throughout the spa instill a feeling of opulence.  The walls are lined with elegant tapestries, decorative dishes and intricate lighting.  The rich green, red and orange accents in the relaxation room further promote the sense of grandeur.

The Little Things
As a first time guest, I was given a complete tour of the spa, boutique and fitness center by the friendly receptionist.  But other than that, I didn’t receive any pampering by the spa attendants.  In fact, I had to ask them to clean up one of the shower stalls before I entered.  This was a bit annoying but the overall spa experience was still wonderful…There were plenty of refreshments available at the spa and fitness center.  The oranges and apples displayed in the relaxation room blended nicely into the décor.  There was a mini refrigerator filled with juices and bottled water.  There was also a nice display of teas and coffee.

The Star Treatment
Elemis offers a wide variety of massages and body treatments, including wraps that are performed on a heated flotation bed that sound very intriguing.  I chose a Deep Tissue massage to help promote the healing of a leg injury I had at the time.  But if not for the injury, I would have also tried the Exotic Coconut Rub and Milk Ritual Float accompanied by a Well Being Massage, very reasonably priced at $230 for 2 hours.

The quality of my Deep Tissue Massage with David was impeccable.  He was able to customize my massage to help provide relief from the pain I was experiencing from my injury.  I felt more comfortable in his care and with his knowledge than my physical therapist.  My injury showed so much improvement from this massage that I went back again the next day.  I finally have proof that a massage can be both therapeutic and relaxing!

The Distinctive Element
The Arabic arches prevalent throughout the spa.  All the doorway arches are cutout in this shape including above the shower doors.  In the Jacuzzi room, there is a large mosaic wall designed in the shape of an Arabic arch.    The signs labeling each room in the spa (locker area, showers, sauna, steam room, etc) are arches.  Even the smallest details like the bathroom door locks are in the shape of an arch.

What to Keep in Mind
The Aladdin Resort is closing and will be reopening as Planet Hollywood in 2006.  It will be interesting to see if the theme of the spa will change as well…The room that holds the Jacuzzi is visible to everyone that enters the locker area. The Jacuzzi is front, center and elevated so if you’re uncomfortable being seen in the nude, bring a bathing suit…I signed up for a players card at the casino and was pleasantly surprised to receive a 10% discount for the spa.
