The Resort
The Boulders Resort is peaceful, tranquil, and the ultimate in relaxation. Nestled in Caferee, Arizona, about half hour outside of Scottsdale, The Boulders Resort is built around nature and keeps true to its surroundings. The buildings are small, earth toned adobe structures that blend seamlessly into the desert landscape. The resort has beautiful bursts of colorful desert flora perfectly dotted around.

Golden Door Spa
The Vibe
The vibe at the Golden Door Spa is one of bringing the outside in. Throughout the spa there were small zen gardens, flowing water rock ponds, and plenty of tall, narrow windows that flood the spa with soft, natural light. It was truly refreshing to see and feel the sun while relaxing in the spa. Picture courtesy of Golden Door Spa. |

The Little Things
Golden Door is all about comfort, even the check in area resembled a large, yet cozy living room with its adobe fireplace and large windows. The tea room, which served as the co-ed relaxation room and place to meet your service technician, was also large, with floor to ceiling windows, comfortable furniture, dried fruit snacks, and fruit infused waters. The women's facilities were very large and spacious and included lockers, a relaxation room, large showers, sauna, a spiral steam room, and a japanese inspired o'furo soaking bath, which was set to body temperature. The spa offered every amenity I could need from the normal shampoos, lotions, and hair care, to the not-so-standard such as the large bottles of SPF15 sunscreen for use in the intense Arizona sun by the spa pool. The spa pool was beautiful and tranquil with soothing music. Even the gate around the pool had a natural feel and seemed to blend well with the landscape. My spa treatment also included access to the fitness center and group fitness classes which included yoga, water aerobics, bosu ball, and pilates, among others. The facility also offered a spa cafe complete with indoor or outdoor seating, a healthy, organic menu, and friendly service.
I went for a 50 minute Deep Tissue Massage, which was absolutely wonderful. My treatment was provided in one of the spa's 24 treatment rooms. The room was softly lit. The spa music was soothing and had a southwestern/native sound to it. The decor was minimal yet blended well with the rest of the resort. My room had a small zen garden on the counter.
The Distinctive Element
For me, the distinctive element was the natural light throughout the spa. The spa amenities helped relax me, while the bright natural light, allowed me to relax without falling asleep. Everywhere I went, I felt connected to nature and the outdoors.

The resort is located a half hour outside of Scottsdale. You'll know when you are getting close as you'll clearly see the rock formations that are the resort's namesake...You'll pay for your services upon check in so that you do not have to interrupt your relaxation and state of bliss to pay the bill...Be sure to give yourself time to lay out by the spa pool, check out the teepee and meditate at the meditation labyrinth. Just beyond the pool area is a large organic garden, which is worth a walk through to see what's growing! |
