The Vibe
Urbane, Upscale, and totally Pampering. Cornelia Day Resort, located on the top floors of the Salvatore Ferragamo building on
New York
’s famed
5th Avenue
, is the ultimate in sophistication. The street level elevator brings guests to the reception desk on the main floor of the resort, which also houses the Cornelia Boutique and Salon Cornelia. The spa locker areas, relaxation room, and spa suites are also on this floor. A wide, circular staircase leads to the scenic top floor of the resort, which features Café Cornelia, a bright and open restaurant with views of the city, and a rooftop garden and lounge.

| We loved the personal attention Cornelia provides to its guests. We were personally escorted from the reception desk to the women’s locker room and also to the relaxation room and connecting relaxation library. These relaxation rooms were decorated in a dark chocolate brown color scheme that made us feel relaxed. The luxurious fabrics that covered the windows and entryway felt rich, yet uniquely comfortable. Each plush chair in the relaxation room had its own ottoman, signature Cornelia blanket, reading lamp, and a Cornelia service booklet. We made ourselves at home by unwinding on the lounge chairs in the library.
The Little Things
Owner Cornelia Zicu, former head esthetician of the Peninsula Spa in New York, left no stone unturned when she designed this spa…A ”quiet room” located near the salon offers a mini retreat of it’s own, with a Plasma TV and internet service…Each of the 14 spa treatment rooms has its own name and was personally designed and decorated to instill feelings of relaxation…The relaxation library has a variety of healing teas (each with it’s own purpose), blueberries and raspberries artfully arranged on a small skewer, tasty sugar cookies and a bookshelf filled with an assortment of reading materials…We were given heated neck rests for our stay in the relaxation rooms, and were personally served teas and snacks. Spa butlers were on hand to refill our teas and serve more snacks. We loved being waited on!
We found several “little things” in the locker room…The lockers were full length and could easily hold a winter coat and a few shopping bags. Each locker offered shelves for smaller items and a personal safe for valuables…The eucalyptus steam room and the towel warmers in each shower helped us stay warm, cozy, and kept us feeling pampered…Cornelia had everything we needed to primp for a night in the Big Apple. We were able to sample Cornelia’s facial products as several types were available in the locker room, including facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Cornelia also offered razors and shave cream; exfoliating shower gloves; toothbrush and toothpaste; body lotion and Salvatore Ferragamo perfume; several types of hairbrushes, hairdryer, a ceramic hair straightener, and even signature contact lense cases! All of these little things, plus a locker room attendant who took great pride in making sure we had everything we needed, made this one of the best locker rooms we’ve experienced yet.

The Star Treatment
Watsu, a shiatsu massage performed in a private indoor heated pool. This unique treatment is not offered at many spas, so we knew we just had to try it. With the assistance of flotation devices, my therapist Eladia held me afloat while stretching and massaging my muscles using rhythmic motions that open the energy pathways. Because I was able to completely trust Eladia, I allowed my body to entirely relax while floating on the water. It was a feeling unlike any other, almost as if I were in the womb, and it achieved total relaxation. |

If you’re looking for a more traditional spa treatment, then we suggest the Royal Romanian Mud Bath. This 90 minute treatment begins with a relaxing soak in a jetted infinity tub. The tub is filled with nutrient rich Romanian Mud extracts, an aromatherapy bath teabag (in your choice of scents), and aromatherapy oil drops. The soak allowed my skin to soften, my mind to relax, and my tension to melt away. Following the bath was a full body exfoliation and a mud wrap. The result? I noticed silky smooth skin as soon as my initial soak was through, and my skin kept getting softer with each phase of the treatment.

The Distinctive Element
The Pampering. We think we’ve finally found the most perfectly pampering spa in Cornelia Day Resort. From the moment we entered the spa, we were completely taken care of. The receptionist who checked us in, escorted us to the locker area where our locker room attendant, Monica, was waiting. She had a very nurturing way about her and we felt comfortable letting her take care of us. She showed us to our lockers and inserted printed name-tags on the doors. We felt special that we actually had lockers with our own names on it. Monica then gave us a tour of the locker facility and brought us to the relaxation library. She took us to the lounge chairs, covered us with blankets and gave us heated neck rests. She then brought us our choice of tea, snacks and reading materials. We didn’t lift a finger. |

After our services, we retreated back to the relaxation library where the spa butler served us complimentary champagne. We ordered lunch from Café Cornelia (additional cost), which we chose to eat in the library so that we could continue relaxing on the lounge chairs.
As we were checking out of the spa, it began to rain outside. The gentleman at the reception desk gave us complimentary signature umbrellas! It took away any stress we might have had about the rain and left us with a wonderful lasting impression of the spa.
What to Keep in Mind
The prices are on the high end, ranging from $150 - $175 for a 60 minute service. However, for a spa that caters to your every need, we found the extra cost was justified…Cornelia’s treatments are more holistic and focus on nurturing and wellness; therefore, you will not find any botox or laser treatments…The spacious spa suites are available for bridal parties or offsite meetings…The Salon can be transformed into a bar or art gallery for parties…If you are celebrating an occasion at Cornelia (birthday, anniversary, etc.) let them know and they will do a little something extra special for you…We enjoyed the spa lunch, not only was the food tasty, but being served our meals on a silver platter (literally) just added another “wow” factor to our already outstanding day.
